*[[Rev 22:12]] KJV* And, behold, I come quickly; and my
reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.
In verse 10 of Revelation chapter 22, John was asked not to
seal the book. This was the direct opposite of what was told Daniel (Dan
12:4,9)
In the case of Daniel, he was told that the vision was not
for his generation. But in the case of John, the angel said the time was at
hand. This pre-supposes that the prophecy of revelation and the second coming
of Christ was for John's generation. (Before you start throwing stones, pls
continue with me to the end)
From our opening verse, Jesus tells us one of the reasons
why He was going to come, namely, "...to reward every man according to his
works." This is the same thing He said to His disciples before going to
the cross...
*[[Mat 16:27]] KJV* For the Son of man shall come in the
glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man
according to his works.
So you can see that the second coming has to do with rewards
(Remember that rewards are for servants - those under the Old Covenant - not
sons). Then in the next verse, Jesus concluded with an interesting statement
that also gives us the timing for His second coming...
*[[Mat 16:28]] KJV* Verily I say unto you, There be some
standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the Son of man
coming in his kingdom.
So in His own words, Jesus tells the disciples that some of
them will still be alive during His coming. So if we who are living 2000 years
after His ascension are still waiting for His coming, then we are also saying
that some of the disciples are still alive, celebrating their 2016th birthday
(now that is strange. Isn't it?)
Beloved, He who was to come has come. Jesus came in His
glory and finally established the Kingdom of Heaven in AD 70. Now as long as He
lives, the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the glory of God.
