*[[Joh 5:39-40/NET]]* 39. You study the scriptures
thoroughly because you think in them you possess eternal life, and it is these
same scriptures that testify about me, 40. but you are not willing to come to
me so that you may have life.
The Bible does not give life, Jesus does. The Bible does not
save, Jesus does. Jesus did not come to die so we could receive a religious
book. He came so we could enjoy abundant life.
Some folks have the attitude of the Jews of Jesus' time.
They study the scriptures as though salvation or eternal life could be found in
it. But Jesus tells us that the point of scripture is to cause man to look away
from himself and look up to Jesus.
By all means study your Bible. Yes study! But discard any
knowledge that does not point you to Jesus. Without the guidance of the Holy Spirit, the Bible becomes a
weapon-of-man-destruction, inflicting pain and bringing division. But let the
fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you.
The Bible shows us what God through Jesus did for us and
what He did with men through the Holy Spirit. But the Holy Spirit in us shows
[1 Jn 2:20 & 27] us who Jesus is now and empowers us to live as He is.
For as He is (exalted, glorified, holy, righteous, reigning) so are we in this
world [1 Jn 4:17]. Shalom!!!
